Healing Through Words and Purpose: How Eric Thompson Jr. Turns Poetry, Pain, and Experience Into Empowerment

Eric Thompson Jr is a multifaceted creative force whose work spans poetry, self-help, and children’s literature. As an author, spoken word poet, event host, public speaker, sports coach, entrepreneur, journalist, and youth empowerment coach, Eric uses storytelling as a tool for healing, inspiration, and transformation.

Hailing from Detroit, Michigan, he proudly describes himself as a product of his environment—someone who turned personal pain into purpose and creativity into impact.

Writing Born From Healing and Self-Expression

Eric’s writing journey began as a form of personal therapy.

“I started writing to help me articulate on paper what was hard to say verbally,” he shares.

Following the emotional loss of his mother at a young age, writing and music became his outlet for grief and healing. With no access to grief counseling or therapy during that time, he turned to hip-hop music as a source of comfort and understanding—an influence that later shaped his first book.

Books Inspired by Life, Loss, and Legacy

Eric is the author of multiple works, including:

  • Blame It On The Music
  • Emotional Black Guy
  • Positive Affirmations for Boys
  • Positive Affirmations for Girls

His debut book, Blame It On The Music, was inspired by his deep connection to hip-hop culture and the emotional power of music in shaping identity and healing.

His affirmation books were inspired by the prophetic and encouraging words of his mother, who believed her children would grow into impactful individuals.

A Mission to Empower Youth and Communities

Eric’s work extends beyond writing. He is deeply committed to youth empowerment, especially within Black communities. Through speaking engagements, poetry, coaching, and entrepreneurship, he uses every platform available to inspire others.

He is also the founder of Eternal Royalty Publishing, created to amplify not only his own voice but also the stories of others seeking to be heard.

“My goal is to show people that everyone has a story worth sharing,” he explains.

The Power of Music, Memory, and Message

For Eric, music has always been more than entertainment—it has been therapy, memory, and emotional survival.

He credits hip-hop and lyrical storytelling as a guiding force through some of life’s most difficult seasons, especially during grief and adolescence.

His work reflects a belief that pain can be transformed into purpose when expressed creatively.

A Voice Rooted in Inspiration

Eric often shares motivational wisdom drawn from cultural icons such as 2Pac:

“Through every night, there’s a bright day after that… keep your head up, and handle it.”

This message aligns with his mission to encourage resilience, self-belief, and emotional strength among young people.

Advice for Aspiring Writers

Eric’s message to new writers is simple:

“Don’t worry about having everything figured out—just get started writing.”

He believes that storytelling begins with honesty, not perfection, and that every voice matters regardless of background or circumstance.
